Kara Garofas
Lake Charles Area Supervisor

Kara E. Garofas joined the GCSS team in September 2010 as the Area Supervisor for the Lake Charles region. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. Originally from the Mississippi Delta Region of Arkansas, Kara has proudly called Louisiana home for the past 8 years.

Kara graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Master of Education in Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Arkansas State University. While attending the University of New Orleans she was a member of CSI honor society valuing academic and professional excellence in counseling. Kara has clinical experience in case management, grief/trauma, school counseling, mental health rehabilitation services, crisis response, play therapy, and quality assurance monitoring.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she facilitated psychosocial intervention programs in the public schools. Students and faculty members were able to express their trauma related experiences as they struggled to cope after the disaster. Kara is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA), and the Louisiana Mental Health Counselors Association (LMHCA).
