program description
The mission of this Louisiana Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) crisis response service is to provide crisis counseling and intervention to children, youth, and their immediate family. CART assists the family members in the stabilization of their crisis and provides the family with advocacy, referral, and support.
The objective of the program is to prevent out of home placement and psychiatric hospitalization of the youth by providing intensive crisis intervention services immediately in the family’s home. |
services provided
- CART services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Services vary as they are tailored to the specific needs of each child.
- Our approach is to focus on assessing the family’s conflict resolution style to develop specific interventions that will help families to negotiate and resolve their differences more effectively.
- Services will be provided in the home, school, and community of the child.

eligibility
- Any child under 18 who is in crisis can be referred to a local Community Mental Health Center to receive this service.

- Signs that a child is in crisis:
- The child’s behavior is unmanageable
- The child is threatening to hurt others
- The child is threatening to hurt him/herself
- Anyone who believes a child is in crisis can contact OBH, but the legal guardian must be in contact with CART to receive services.
